This Beautiful Life (Friday Fictioneers)

Here’s my second go at Friday Fictioneers 🙂 It’s ended up being a bit of a play around with dialogue.

This Beautiful Life

“It’s broken” Janet mutters, her arms embracing the contents of the wash basket.

“What? The toilet?” My hands stop short at my belt.

She’s already half way down the stairs, a trail of dirty socks in her wake. Big sighs escape her as yet more stray items free themselves from her grasp.

“Janet?” I trip over a Twirly Woo.

“Daddy!” cries my youngest appearing from a bedroom.

“Have you been eating chocolate Gracie? Your hands are covered…”

“It’s poo” calls James from his room “She got it out of the potty”

“You are shitting me!”

“MUUM! Dad’s swearing again!”

  1. This was very real indeed. I loved the trail of dirty clothes… and what is it about young kids and poo? My niece and nephew used to play in their diapers and smear the walls… so gross.

    1. Eww… my two thankfully didn’t get into their nappies (well one is still in them but I think he would have done it by now if he was going to (touches wood furiously!! Ha!)
My little girl pooed on the floor once during potty training and stood in it – that was the first and last time she did so outside the potty- she was NOT impressed with that feeling 😂😂
